A little good humour

After beakfast today we all jumped in the car and headed to West End. Glen and Mandy got out here to do some T-shirt, etc shopping. I stopped at the dive shop, hoping to find Steve, Mal, or Aaron. No sign of Steve or Aaron but Mal was there. He gave Joel from the proshop a call and passed the phone to me, so we got our golf booking done. We had given up trying to get through ourselves but this worked, and hopefully the "friend of a member" part works at the till tomorrow too. Eileen and I made a Coxen Hole run for a few more groceries, then we went back to the house. Eileen did a bit of kayaking. Glen and Mandy came back via water taxi. We had lunch plans to meet Shawnda at Beachers as long as the weather was good. About 12:00 it started pouring rain, which lasted about 45 minutes or so. Instead of walking we decided to drive to West Bay. I thought we could park in the Bite on the Beach lot since they were closed today. I missed the turnoff and decided to turn around in a spot where there was a bit of flat land at the edge of this narrow road. Well it was a little soft on the shoulder and the car would not bring the front wheels back onto the concrete. The other three bailed out to push and we came out quite easily, but despite my being careful, that last little bit must have caused a little spinning of the front wheels. Unfortunately for Mandy, she was right in line. Have you ever tried to sound sincere with an apology when you're rolling in laughter. She was mud splattered from her toes to her armpit, literally. She did get washed off in the ocean when we arrived, but even a security guard, who are usually pretty stone faced, had to have a laugh.

The picture dosn't do it justice

Shawnda didn't show up for lunch, I'm sure the rain deterred her, but we all had a good feed at Beachers.

Came back to the house, and had a nice long snorkel. The highlight was a bridled burrfish that Glen found, but when I saw him he had ducked into a cavity. Got a few other pictures though.

Went to West End for supper at the Barefoot Bar. $5 for BBQ chicken with potato salad and beans. Enough to feel full and a good budget meal. Just as we left, we ran into Nanci and her crew heading there for supper too. This is their last night here and they were so happy to have been introduced to diving. Both Nanci and Gerry blew their eardrums on their last dive, but they said it was their own fault. They want to come back in the fall to finish their certification......Gerry came over, shook my hand, and thanked me. After 50 years of fearing water, he can't wait to come back and go diving again. I think they had a good time.
