New Adventures

Another hot, sunny, and calm day although we have picked up some breeze in the last hour with a little thunder and lightning action going on.  Which is totally weird because it looks like it came in from the east and we just finished having dinner on the deck at Gio's in Flowers Bay and there wasn't even a hint that there was any weather happening.  Flowers Bay is almost straight east of us, and not very far away in a straight line, although it's about a twenty minute drive.  The restaurant is called Gio's King Crab.  They have had a restaurant in French Harbour for years but have just opened a second location in Flowers Bay.  Shortly after we sat down the manager came to talk to us and asked if we were big eaters.  We said no, so he advised that we share a meal.  Good choice.....we ordered a crab/lobster plate which came with a few crab claws, some legs, and two lobster tails.  They bring each patron a mallet and a board for cracking the claws.  They also come around and put bibs on everyone.  Eileen was just killing herself laughing at me in my bib, and wishing we'd brought the camera.  We talked about it, but I'd just put the battery on to charge.  Maybe we'll have to go back again....The place is pretty impressive, it'll seat 270 people, I'm sure it was designed to try and cash in on the cruise crowd, as you can see the Coxen Hole cruise dock from the deck.  A couple of larger groups came in after we did, and when they got served it sounded like a construction zone, with everyone hammering away with there mallets.  Wasn't a budget meal, but we're on vacation....
Took off this morning and ventured out to Palmetto Bay.  It's been dry for a couple of days but I was still a little apprehensive about the drive in.  Turned out to be nothing to worry about.  Actually was a pretty drive down a sand/gravel/rock road although we did discover where the island garbage dump is. Took about twenty minutes after we left the pavement.  The pictures from the Palmetto Bay website looked pretty sweet and they were real.  The beach and resort were gorgeous.  If you want to get away for a week or so of beach seclusion, this is the place (they even have a dive shop).  Eileen and I probably walked for a mile along the beach and we saw two people, one guy raking seaweed and one lady out for a walk.
Distance view of the main resort area at Palmetto Bay

Picked up live starfish with their little tentacles wiggling about, one live conch, there were large clusters of snail shells that I thought were just shells in some backwater calm spot but when I scooped up a handful they were all crawling about too.
Went to their main desk and asked if we could see one of their rentals.  They have a few individual units that they rent out.  Nothing spectacular, but they had full kitchens and multi-bedrooms.  Several reasonably priced homes for sale there too, but we're not going there right now.

Had a nice lunch there and headed back out to the highway.  Went up to Coxen Hole, stopped in for a few groceries, drove back home (through Coxen Hole again), saw where Gio's restaurant was, had an afternoon nap, did dinner, ohhh and now it sounds like it's starting to rain.
Forecast is for a wet one tonight and maybe tomorrow.  Hope that gets it out of it's system, because Monday is the golf outing.   Oh yea, Habs win 5-0.  Would have been a good night to go to Sundowners.  Poor Aaron....and Melissa, and Ashton.....Gotta go see if I can pull up some highlights.
