Got a bit of color today

Our first day of total sunshine so after a morning walk and some breakfast, we heaaded down to West Bay and hit the beach.  It was nice for the sun to show up today when there were no cruise ships on the island.  We've always avoided West Bay on cruise ships days, so this was good timing.  Went for a couple of snorkels and otherwise just relaxed.  The most interested snorkel siting was a small (1 foot) peacock flounder.  Had some smoked chicken for lunch at the Thirsty Turtle and then we drove to Luna Beach resort and inquired about diving with them.  I think that they will really be the best option for this year.  Easy access, nice full size dive boat, and small groups.  They also have a very quiet beach area that Eileen can hang out on while I'm out diving.  Stopped at Rendevous Sushi on the way back to the house and made supper reservations.  Hung out a the house for the last half of the afternoon doing next to nothing.  Eileen lost me in the house once.  I went up to the third level to see if we could see Cayo Cochinas on a clear day (you can) and she had no idea where I'd disappeared to.  I think I mentioned that this place is huge....
The sushi place is certainly different.  It's basically the main level of their house, which is a small older house right on the main road in West Bay.  He has a sushi bar on one side of the "living room" with a few tables in the rest of the room.  Between his sushi bar and the original kitchen, they prepare their meals.  Starters were a coconut ginger soup and a seaweed salad.  Both were wonderful, I'm going to be googling for coconut ginger soup receipes later....We had several sushi type selections for the main meal and then a desert that was something like a key lime pie on a frozen watermelony crust.  We'll be back there for another meal before we leave.  Great conversations with the couple that run the place.  He's a self proclaimed sushi addict who works as a computer geek for a day job.  They lived in Belize for a few years and have now been on Roatan for eight years.  They would have fit in well with the sixties genre.
No plans for tomorrow other than heading down to Smugglers for some super bowl fun.  Don't really care who wins the game but it's a good excuse for a get together.

  1. Coconut Ginger soup, seaweed salad and sushi.... I don't think your in Roatan - you must be in heaven??! Wow! Sounds so nice, specially your place, I remember the zig zag design, but still very functional areas, and a view to die for I can only imagine! Sounds like your trip so far has been "top shelf" as Brian Mattie would say!!
