Day 2

A bit of rain overnight and mostly cloudy today but no rain.  Started the morning with a walk down to Smugglers, about 15 minutes there.  Saw the condos that we had seen on House Hunters International, they do look pretty nice.  After some breakfast we went into West End and decided that it was a great decison to stay where we are this year.  The construction is most definetely not complete.  We suspected as much and parked just outside of town; that was smart.  Walked up to Half Moon, where we stayed last year; what a yukky mess the road was in.  It would be fine if it was dry but they have had so much rain lately and the sandy road surface is now mixed with the clayey soil, so it's a bit slick.  Met up with Bonnie from Cocolobo.  Had a nice chat about the construction and got an invite to their Friday happy hour.  Backtracked through West End and ran into Lillian (from Minnedosa).  Got the lowdown on the dive shop and found out that Rico is still taking a few divers out even though he isn't fully licensed to run a dive shop yet (paperwork).  Now I'm torn between giving him my business or going with someone established.  Being such a soft heart, I'll likely hunt him down and find out if he has the reources to take on another diver.
Checked out our BBQ this morning and determined that there was no chance that it was going to function.  Anything made of metal here has a very limited life expectancy.  So I thought I'd go shopping for some cheap charcoal BBQ.  We went for lunch at Blue Bahia and from past experience we knew better than to order two meals, so we said we'd split an angus burger and added an order of rings,,,,should have clued in from the $8 price tag on the rings...they came on a platter,,,enough for a doggie bag that we had for supper.  We asked him where he would go for a bbq and he convinced me to go to Coxen Hole.  Now Coxen Hole is a very busy place with really narrow streets, I have avoided it with the exception of one quiet Sunday morning last year.  But we got brave and ventured down there, early afternoon on a cruise ship day....about the worst scenario you could come up with. We actually ended up driving the main street three times and surviving, and came out of it with a $20 charcoal bbq, which cooked up tonights steak and reheated rings just fine.  Drove back to West Bay on the low road, glad Eileen doesn't get car sick easily any more.  Fun road to drive though.
Went back to West End about 5:00 for Cocolobo happy hour.  Talked to Ron and found out that they really don't have a liquor license, they just have a Friday happy hour where a bunch of guests and friends hang out.  Three beer and a Caeser for $10.  Good happy hour.  Met a lot of old friends, Conneticut et al, Shawnda and her husband, John and wife (owners of the radio staion).  We're playing in their charity golf outing on the 13th.  They are raising money to send a kid to school.  Tournament format sounds like fun, first one in the group to the green gets a point, doesn't matter how many strokes it took you to get there, closest to the pin when all are on the green gets a point, and first one in the hole gets a point.  Prize for the winner; nothing but fun.  Called the golf course earlier today to reserve our clubs.
Back to the house, driving those roads are not nearly as much fun in the dark as they are in the daylight, but we made it just fine.  Fired up the new grill, they didn't make those "just a match" briquettes when I last cooked with briquettes.  Thought I'd found a way to keep Eileen up in the evening; don't feed her until 8:30.  Didn't work.....
What's up tomorrow, don't have a clue......but who cares.

  1. Used to call that golf game (with the Points) Bingo, Bango, Bongo.
Had a Monkey LaLa yesterday (well, ok, two) in your honour. How are they at Smugglers?
